Tenrikyo Dynamic Mission - WORLDLY COMMON - TRUTHS OF THE WORLD - Pg.7 "A Thing Borrowed"
Ok, so I want to continue but how should I go about doing so?
After having given some serious thought to the long journey of humankind and, I think, getting some kind of understanding of worldly common truths of the world and the way in which they were selected for me and conditioned and programed into me as a child. And now being aware of my habit of creating even more worldly common truths that are based on a foundation of those early principle worldly common truths, and now seeing how those worldly common truths of the world have carried over into my adult life: Pondering now and becoming aware of the way in which those worldly common truths of the world gradually accumulated and expanded in response to all various matters at hand. And in so doing influencing both my ideas of myself, my self image, and the way in which I experience the world. That said, even after pondering all of that, the knowledge and understanding of the original cause of any and everything including the true origin of my mind is still not revealed. What's up with that?
That my body is a thing borrowed was conditioned into my mind as a school child along with numerous and various worldly common moral ethical teachings and truths that over the centuries have flowed from that truth. Generally the notion of the body as a thing borrowed usually settles as the understanding that we have to take care of the body that we have been loaned and that our body will be returned to its actual owner at the time of our death; at which time some kind of judgment will take place between our creator and our individual soul. Popular worldly common truths from around the world in all ages include true ideas concerning judgments and just rewards in heaven, purgatory and hell or rebirth in either a higher or lower form or nothing at all. Depending upon the foundation upon which the reasoning for those truths rests all are reasonable and appropriate for maintaining an orderly society in their time, place and according to the level of maturity of those who teach worldly common truths and those who are conditioned to accept them as fundamental to their thinking.
The poem above creates a confrontation between the worldly common truths that have as their foundation the belief that our body is to be returned and judged at the time of our death and the instruction to return our body quickly with a word of thanks. Since we are told that we can understand nothing if we remain unknowing that our body is a thing borrowed we will have to do some work on understanding this instruction. That is I will have to do some work - service, "tsutome" - that doesn't involve employing the same kind of shallow, worldly common ideas, speculations and truths that lead to a misunderstanding this fundamental element of the Tenrikyo Dynamic.
Recall that this misunderstanding occupied the minds of people who heard this teaching directly from the mind of our original parent from Miki Nakayama's own lips. To the regret of our original parent there was and continues to be a great deal of understandable worldly common sincerity invested in that misunderstanding. The question then is to ask how does one who sincerely wants to the know the original cause of all things, the mind of our original parent prepare one's mind to know and understand that truth but not in a shallow worldly common way?
