Tenrikyo Dynamic Mission - ILLNESS SUFFERING AND TROUBLE
By this salvation given accordance with the mind of
sincerity,
you shall be freed from illness, death, and weakening.
This poem refers to the promise of universal (meaning all of our ills and troubles at once) single-hearted salvation (meaning a mind that has returned to its original pristine condition and knows how to reason from that foundation). It is not an empty or impossible promise, however there is no shallow, worldly common way to realize its meaning. The promise can however be realized by the purified mind that deeply reflects on the truth that this entire universe is the body of God and that human bodies are - abstractions (bits) of the constantly evolving universe attached to an idea appearing in God's mind as the experience of a multitude of separate existences ("our self centered imaginations") - things borrowed from God. It is not easy for us to settle that truth as doing so requires the recollection of God's original single mind through a totally purified calm mind, metaphorically a "mind like clear water".
There is nothing that I cannot teach,
but there is no one
who listens
with a purified mind.
To get to that totally purified "mind like clear water" requires either working at it (perfection of a service that settles our imagination) or instantaneous letting go through true sincerity. Miki Nakayama showed a model of several different services (ways of working to settle our mind), each one suitable for a particular time, place and level of spiritual maturity. The circumstance of Her awakening as a "Shrine of God" is an example of instantaneous true sincerity. Her various efforts to employ "all means" to teach all human beings equally are an invitation to use whatever means are appropriate for time, place and maturity to intentionally follow Her model of "services" and quickly return our minds to the one truth of their origin, their original pristine condition. This is called awakening to "single heartedness with God".
